The clear/blue passivate gives the standard BZP finish.  This is the bright silver finish and is done immediately after plating. The yellow/gold finish is also applied immediately after plating. Both types of passivating give outstanding protection against corrosion. There are other coloured finishes possible with this kit such as olive drab and black.

Most of the plating I do is on motorcycle parts, I find that it is just as easy to plate as normal zinc with the added bonus of far superior corrosion resistance. I also use it for parts that I am going to paint such as centre stands which are notorious for going rusty. This means that if I get any stone chips, they don't go rusty and I don't have to strip the whole thing. I can just touch it up.

Zinc/Nickel plating can give 5 times the corrosion resistance of normal passivated zinc! In salt spray tests the time to white rust went up fom 300 hours on yellow passivated zinc to over 1500 for the yellow passivated zinc/nickel alloy.

The plating process is quite quick with a typical 10 micron coating taking 20 minutes and passivating taking about 30 seconds.  The size and shape of the objects to be plated is only limited to the size and shape of the tank in which you are plating. For long items you could use a wallpaper soaking tank for example.
